1. In November we are storing plants pot in pot for the winter. The root hardiness of all plants is 40 degrees less hardy than their stem hardiness. So we have beds where we store plants for the winter with their pots (and roots) surrounded by mulch. Plants that are more hardy (like lilacs) are lined up with the sides of their pots touching. Look for a pink label dangling somewhere in the picture with the date printed on it.

2. Its important for me to show potential customers that at no time are our plants protected from winter cold. We do protect the roots just as they would be protected if they were in the ground instead of in pots.

On left is the blueberry bush 'Northsky' and on right is 'Aiton' lowbush blueberry; V angustifolium. Click for a larger image you can save as wallpaper. Sometime the label with the date is just lieing in a pot.

Rows of Lilacs at the farm. Sometime the label is attached to one of my metal signs.

On left is Row D where we are growing many varieties of lilac in increments of fifty of each. For other rows go to Rowabcde . Click for a larger image.

I show pictures of my plant signs so you can read a description and see how many we had for sale on a green dot. You can also get an idea of what Roses, Lilacs, Blueberry bushes, Azaleas and more we will start growing next year by examining my different orders from propagation nurseries around the USA. This years Rose Order at www.floweringshrubfarm.com/roseorde.htm

Next to each picture of a sign is a picture of the plants growing together or a close up of the flower.

6.

7. Empty Pots and cardboard boxes are placed on an outside shelf where they can be pulled into the barn through a window and sorted for recycle. Roses are placed in a raised bed where the roots can be covered with mulch.

9. We are tieing espalier onto trellises.

I take pictures showing the current level of growth on each crop. Click for a larger image where you can read the sign and see the date the picture was taken. When plants flower I attach a locking tag to each one (we only sell those that have been previously labeled in this way).

Keelay passed away in spring of 2011 but in pictures he lives for ever.

We rake leaves into the path. Large plants are burried in mulch on both sides. Later a layer of bark mulch is added on top of the leaves so we can still walk. If we need compost we can dig some out of the path.

Fall foliage on some of the plants we grow.

Photographs converted to watercolor to save as wallpaper.
