Picture Newsletter by andyvancleve of www.floweringshrubfarm.com February, 12, 2009 (021209) Stage of growth on five and six foot 'Ludwig Spaeth' Lilacs in the field. I take pictures in my nursery all year of the shrub, flower, fruit, fall foliage of the plants along with maintenence and then post them in my newsletter sometimes with comments. The file name of each picture (above each picture) includes the date it was taken the name of the plant what part was photographed (fruit, flower etc.) and sometimes the inventory number if available. Sometimes clicking the picture will take you to another page with more information. Potential customers subscribe in order to be notified when the plants they are interested in are in bloom.

In the foreground are some Spiraea bumalda 'Candle Light' we may wish to transplant as well.

This shows the row of five and six foot 'Ludwig Spaeth' Lilacs we plan to dig as soon as the snow is gone, the ground is workable but the lilacs are still dormant.

This bud isn't showing any cracking yet. As soon as it does we wont have much time left to dig them and transplant them into 7 gallon or 15 gallon pots. I determine the pot size by the size of the root. Once transplanted I'll tag them with inventory numbers and any that flower this year will be for sale (7 gallon $30, 15 gallon $50 or 60, 45 gallon $100 or more). If we were to transplant to late after it begins to break dormancy it wouldn't flower this year.

Just clear enough to show that this lilac is still dormant. As soon as the snow is gone and the ground can be worked it will be ready to dig.
