The Plant Sale is May 15 to July 4 (10 AM to 2 PM or by appointment after 2). After July 4 I'm still Open by Appointment but if you dont make an appointment I may be out in the fields or taking cuttings and unable to sell you a plant. If you want to make an appointment you should email me or leave your phone number on my answering machine at (518) 765-2574 so I can call you back. My cell phone number is posted on the barn door in back of the house if you need to call me at the farm.
Once it flowers each plant is labeled with a yellow, individually numbered, inventory label. As pictures are taken, they will be saved in the web site using that number.
This 'Edward J Gardner' French lilac picture is saved as 11318edwardgardner051409. 051409 is the date the picture was taken. Crop 307
above is an inventory picture of 11069picture.jpg 'Ludwig Spaeth'
Each individual plant has a yellow label attached that has an inventory number on it. Whenever I take pictures of the plants I take a picture of the number on this label too. In 2006 we used numbers through 10-499. In 2007 we started new numbers at 10-500. In 2008 I barely started at 11-001
Once plants have flowered proving conclusively the variety, I take a dated picture of that flower and save it using an inventory number that I attach to the pot . Each INVENTORY PICTURE of a plant for sale is shown in a special web page for that variety alone. If it hasn't flowered yet the picture will show the inventory label only. Prices of the plants for sale; 7 gallon size $30 (+8% tax), 15 gallon size $50 or more (+8% tax). As plants are sold I highlight its inventory number in red in the catalog of that type of plant. Links to the catalogs are in my home page at www.floweringshrubfarm.com
If you wish to be a customer my suggestion is;
Send me an email asking to be added to my subscribers list.
I notify my subscribers via email when I post a new picture (a picture is worth a thousand words). Pictures during the growing season can keep you aware of when the plants are flowering so you can "Buy it in bloom!" At other times the pictures may be of the chores we do in the nursery, notification of special sales and foliage or decorative fruit pictures that I will add to each plants picture collection linked from its inventory number in the catalog.
It will then be your choice whether you wish to come to the plant sale or purchase plants Mail Order with the extra cost of Fed Ex or UPS. Check out how we determine prices.
Smart buyers buy it in bloom. So I've set up the flowering shrub farm to be open when most of the plants we grow are in bloom. I dont sell plants that haven't bloomed previously so we can verify the variety. We have the picture-newsletter so that my customers will know when the plants they are interested in are in bloom.
The Plant sale is at: 40 Voorheesville Ave, Voorheesville, NY 12186 across from the Voorheesville Diner
What we do and when we do it with pictures.
You can leave your phone number on my answering machine at 518-765-2574 and I'll get back to you as soon as possible if you dont have email. I dont answer the phone directly because I'm probably watering, feeding, pruning, potting etc.
My email address is azaleahs@capital.net
Lots of people come and buy plants from us because they dont want to wait 5 or 10 years to have a large established plant. You might also enjoy the display of large old garden roses in 45 gallon pots that we set up in front and along the left side of the house (In July and August I take cuttings from these to root).
Click here for a picture of one of our gift certificates. They can be had by sending a check made out to 'Azalea House' for the amount requested (usually $20, $50, or $100), enclosed with a first class stamp to Azalea House Flowering Shrub Farm, PO Box 49, Voorheesville, NY 12186. If the return of the gift certificate in timely fashion is required warn me in an e-mail to watch for your letter. Otherwise I'll pick up the mail once a week.
