I only have partial use of my right arm and left wrist which interferes in my abilities to handle and package plants for mail order. If I get a lot of orders I may not be able to hire anyone so orders may be delayed. If you wish to order a plant mail order you should reas the entire page.
I can send mail order packages anywhere in New York State as long as the plants wont freeze in their packages. Usually May through September.
Packages addressed outside New York State have to be inspected by an Agricultural Inspector. The minimum charge being $25 we try to have all mail order plants inspected at the same time sometime in July.
Email me as early in the year as possible. I wont send any plants that haven't leafed out and either begun to bloom or have previously bloomed this year. This not only verifies the variety but insures that it will break dormancy.
Plants that we send mailorder have been grown into a 7 gallon pot, have previously bloomed ( and been photographed with its inventory number; check the catalog and click on the underlined inventory numbers ) and are sold for $30+8% tax+$5 for packaging+3 day Fed Ex (check below for some past freight charges highlighted in red).
Or you can drive to the plant sale and buy it without the freight charge. If you plan on ordering a plant mail order you should send the address and telephone number I'm supposed to send the package to and a check for $60 (includes freight and packaging) for each plant (made out to Azalea House) to PO Box 49, Voorheesville, NY 12186. You must also include the inventory number of the actual plant and an alternative in case that one has sold.
I require that customers add themselves to my subscribers list to receive my picture-newsletter. Then I seek out the plants they are interested in in the nursery and take new crop pictures of them. I send links to the new pictures of the shrubs and flowers to all my subscribers whenever new pictures are taken. If you click on the underlined inventory numbers in my catalogs it should show you a picture of the plant as of the last overwrite.
First go to the catalog of plant varieties your interested in, linked from my home page.
Email me and ask me about the availability of that variety. I'll probably email you back within a day or two. The inventory is most accurate in the fall.
You should email me and ask to be included as a subscriber to my picture-newsletter. In winter I take pictures of all kinds of things, but as plants bud out and bloom, pictures of the plants blooming are the primary subject. Often during the plant sale I'll post a picture and the plant will sell out by the following monday.
Ask me about the warranty. My business requires repeat customers so I go out of my way to make it worth while. The only restriction is I carry minimal quantities of each and sometimes you have to wait (and you have to pay for shipping every time).
Lilacs available only Own root, while roses are often available both Own root or Grafted on Rosa multiflora.
When I send plants to people I will tell how much it cost here in order to give you some idea as to how much it might cost you..
In August 2007 I sent:
Rosa moyesii 'Geranium' wanted in Chicago, 7 gallon size is $30, 25 pound plant Fed Ex $15, box is $5. Overall cost was $50.
2008 List (customers in 2008 were asked to send $50 but that they should check here for the real cost).
Rita got a 'Felicite Parmentier' sent to Salt Lake City sent July 29 the freight was $33.14 ($32.40+$33.14=$65.54). 65.54-50=15.54 I emailed Rita and asked for an additional $15.54
Marilyn wanted a 'White Rose of York' for Gwen in Medina, Ohio. It was sent July 29 and the freight was $18.16 (so 32.40+18.16=$50.56).
Suzanna wanted a 'Mme Hardy' in Westminster, Colorado 80021. It was sent July 29 and the freight was $27.89 (so $32.40+$5+$27.89=$65.29). $65.29-$50=$15.29 I didn't get paid for. I'll have to raise the prepay amount for Colorado at least $15 to $65.
Jean wanted a 'Felicite Parmentier' Alba Rose in Freeport, NY 14450. It was sent August 5 and the freight (23 pounds) was $15.45 (so $32.40+$5 packaging+$15.45 Fed Ex=$52.85 which is OK but I have to raise the prepay amount to $55 next year).
I keep forgetting to charge for the box which costs me around $5 each. I have 2 sizes 2 feet tall and 3 feet tall usually 15 inch by 15 inch. I buy from Uline and they cost me $3 each plus a couple dollars each UPS. Other costs I could charge for but dont at the moment include labor, gas etc.
Email me at azaleahs@capital.net (I printed out the email for those of you who just want to note it down) I need to know what plant you are interested in, where you live and your email. Provide me with your phone number and I'll call you back.
We don't print a catalog. Our only catalog is on line linked from my home page at www.floweringshrubfarm.com
I'm a grower. Which means I plant these plants in really large pots and then sell them only when they begin to bloom. If it hasn't bloomed previously its not for sale. I also use the pot in pot method. 7 gallon or 15 gallon potted plants are buried in 45 gallon pots rhat are floored with gravel and surrounded with mulch. Sometimes I carry them through winter in 7 gallon pots surrounded with mulch sitting on the ground.
Generally someone will email me and ask about the availability of a particular plant we say in the catalog we're growing.
I email back for the person to subscribe to the picture-newsletter.
They email me back and ask to be added to the subscribers list.
I go out in the nursery and take pictures of each plant (that they had requested availability information on) that I'm growing against a white wall so you can see how well branched it is. The new pictures are posted on my web site by overwriting previous pictures I have taken. I send links to the new pictures to all my subscribers.
My newest subscriber chooses the inventory number of the plant they want and gives me a second choice in case there's some problem, they send me a check for a previously arranged amount that is the sum of the cost of the plant+the packaging+Fed Ex 3 day ground+etc.
After the check clears in my bank I send the plant by Fed Ex 3 day ground.
